Free D&D Battle Maps

Twelve ready-made battle maps for the scenes that come up most: the tavern, the crypt, the ambush on the road and the final throne room. Each is fully editable, so open it, move a door or add a trap, and download it at the right size for your VTT.

Choosing a battle map for your encounter

Pick the map for the fight you want, not just the location. Tight dungeon corridors favour a party with a strong front line; open forest favours skirmishers and archers; a tavern full of furniture turns every attack into a question of cover. If the party is fighting a horde, choose a map with a chokepoint; if they face one big monster, give them room to spread out.

Want something none of these offer? Roll a fresh map or paint one from scratch.

Questions game masters ask

Are these D&D battle maps free to use?

Yes, for your home games and streams. Maps are generated on your device from a seed, so there is nothing to credit and no licence to buy.

How do I download one?

Press Open & export on any map. It opens in the editor with the same seed; choose the pixels per square for your VTT and download the PNG or .dd2vtt.

Why do some maps look different on my screen?

They won’t: a seed always produces the same map. The thumbnails are simply drawn without grid lines; the editor adds them.
