A blank grid has no key yet. Paint some rooms and place props, and the read-aloud writer will describe what you drew.

Read-aloud writer

Turns this layout into boxed text to read at the table, plus three tactical hooks. Uses AI; the map itself never needs it.

Quick answer: Press New graveyard to roll a cemetery on 5-ft squares: a stone wall with a gate, crossing paths, rows of headstones, an open grave, old trees and a mausoleum whose stairs lead down. Export it as PNG or .dd2vtt.

How the graveyard is laid out

The generator builds a walled churchyard on the road with a gate in the wall. Two paths cross the yard; headstones fill the rows between them with gaps here and there. A mausoleum sits in one corner with two sarcophagi and stairs down, so the graveyard works as the entrance to a crypt. Old trees and bushes break up sight lines.

Three ways to use this map

  1. The gravedigger has been paid to dig a grave every night this week, with no funerals.
  2. The dead are rising, but only in the newest row.
  3. A rival party is robbing the mausoleum and has set a lookout at the gate.

Who lives here? Zombies (CR 1/4), ghouls (CR 1), a ghast (CR 2), a ghost (CR 4) or a necromancer such as a cult fanatic (CR 2) with skeletons. Check the difficulty for your party in the encounter builder, then use the read-aloud writer under the map for boxed text.

Questions game masters ask

What happens in a D&D graveyard encounter?

Undead rising at night is the classic, but graveyards also suit grave robbers, ghouls feeding, a funeral that turns violent, or a necromancer at work. The mausoleum stairs can lead on to a crypt map.

Can I link the graveyard to a crypt?

Yes. Generate a crypt map with the same seed and treat the mausoleum stairs as the crypt entrance. Both share the same 5-ft grid.

How dark is a graveyard at night?

Under 5e rules moonlight is usually dim light, which lightly obscures the area; without the moon it is darkness. Lanterns and torches change that.
